DosKa 2

September 6, 2007

DosKa project – it was generally speaking the proof of concept, the ideas testing. Besides it was made specially for the Imagine Cup contest during the last few weeks before the final. And due to such rush some wrong architecture decisions were made, some functionliaty was not included, some features were made more simple than we wanted before.

Therefore, we decided to start the new phase in DosKa project – to re-write it using new knowledge and experience that we have received during DosKa 1 development.

DosKa 2 is written for .NET 3.0 platform, for UI the WPF is used (in contrast to DosKa 1 which was used Windows Forms).

Return from Imagine Cup Final

August 21, 2007

IC07 Logo - Small

We have returned from Imagine Cup 2007 Final in Seoul.

The whole event was really great! It was the great possibility to present our project to the world, and we made it. Many people were really interested in our project, so now we feel very inspired and have new forces to continue working on DosKa project.

And another important side – it’s making new friends from all over the world and meeting with old friends again – some of them I know from IC05 final in Tokyo.

Missing one and last special ingridient

June 2, 2007

All the way until now we been working on tablet version of DosKa. It’s working out great, but something is missing. I setup a testing of the app at university using SmartBoard – and it was awesome. I could use my fingers to create illustration and run simulators wihout any glitches, except for one: the app would not recognize an input from  from SmarttBoards pens.Using pens is very important, it makes the whole experience highly intuitive and familiar.

I went to smart boards website looking for an SDK, but it was not there. It turns out you are not allowed to create your own software for smart board…. Weird, but hey, we live in a world of software patents and licenses. There was however a mentioning of a educational SDK that comes free. But no download link….. So I made a phone call to the company and spoke with the tech rep. He was able to hook me up with someone in the company and who finally send me the SDK. Hurrrray!!!!!!!!! Now we have all that we need to make our idea work!

The project made it to the finals

March 15, 2007

This morning Aleksei pop-up in my messenger and told me to pick up my x-box360. LOL, that meant only one thing: the project made it to the finals to Korea. Holy cow. Last year I came back home pretty devasted after out fiasco in slovenia’s semifinals. No india, no finals , no  light (at the end of tunnel) for ICare project. But this year its diffrent. This year , finnally we got green light. And I know is going to be extremmally hard. I know how good projects are at the finals, the competition is enourmous. The will be 30-40 best teams from all over the world. I am terified and excited at the same time. Ohhh, thats going to be so coooooooooool!!!!
